Urban air pollution and rising carbon emissions have become one of the defining environmental challenges of our time. With global emissions surpassing 37.8 billion tonnes in 2024, cities urgently need scalable solutions capable of addressing air quality at the source.
AlgaeTree™ is a self-sustaining microalgae-based carbon capture system designed for urban environments. Using high-efficiency photobioreactor technology, each unit captures up to ~2 kg of CO₂ per day, filters airborne pollutants, and releases oxygen back into the surrounding atmosphere.
Powered by integrated renewable energy systems and intelligent monitoring, AlgaeTree™ operates as an independent, living carbon sink helping cities move toward cleaner and more resilient urban environments.

Our mission is to bring the power of microalgae into the heart of our cities: building self-sustaining systems that capture carbon, restore oxygen, and help improve the air millions breathe every day.
With each AlgaeTree™ capable of capturing up to ~2 kg of CO₂ per day, we aim to scale this living technology across urban landscapes helping reduce carbon emissions while creating healthier environments for the 140+ crore people of India.
Alignment withGovernment Goals
India has committed to ambitious climate and air-quality targets, including achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070, reducing urban air pollution under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), and advancing research in Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technologies.
AlgaeTree™ has been developed with these national priorities in mind. By utilizing microalgae-based carbon capture and renewable energy systems, the technology contributes to ongoing efforts aimed at reducing atmospheric carbon, improving urban air quality, and strengthening climate-resilient infrastructure.
Its modular design allows deployment in public spaces, transport corridors, and industrial zones, supporting broader initiatives under the Smart Cities Mission and contributing to India’s commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
